Khy'Von!
We don’t know who is stronger, Khy'Von, or his mom, Ma'Khia, for what she has been through with him since his birth. Khy’Von underwent his first heart surgery at 30 days old. There would be 2 more surgeries before a fourth surgery at 5 months old, where Khy received a new heart. Khy’s hospital was 2 hours from their home in Roanoke, VA, so Ma'Khia had to uproot and move closer while Khy was hospitalized. She sold everything she owned back home to try to support their needs while he continued to struggle with complications. Ma’Khia had to quit her college classes, her fiancé walked away, and even though she worked as many odd jobs as possible in her new town, she couldn’t keep up. Then, the situation became even more devastating; Khy could no longer be cared for at his current hospital. Khy was going to be transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Ma’Khia made the move to an entirely new state with just her clothes, her car, and a few family items. Throughout this ordeal, your donations have supported Ma’Khia’s greatest needs. Your donations have helped Ma’Khia keep up with her car payments, helped with car repair, made sure she had a phone for communication, and that she had food to eat each day. Although this young mom has a long road ahead, we’re so happy to share that Khy’Von is now thriving, that Ma’Khia has a new apartment, and that she has a nurse to look after Khy while she begins stable employment. Ma’Khia also has a goal to start online classes again in the spring. Your generous and loving support gave Ma’Khia the help that she needed to stay on her feet. In her words, "I appreciate you all so much.. thank you, thank you. I am grateful that there are kind people who make it easier for me to be here for Khy’Von every day. Being able to receive help allows me to focus on him and support him. So again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
